Artist's note: This illustration started and ended on a different beach. Exploring solid shapes in the sketching phase the image felt too heavy, so I started working with simple lines—creating the airy floating effect I wanted to achieve. The imperfect undulating wave reminds me of that surprise you get when a wave reminds you it makes its own decisions and you’re just there for the ride.
